Our Vision

  

A faith-based campus community where adults with special needs can 

live, work, worship and socialize.

Our Mission

  • To provide a loving, secure community where adults with all degrees of developmental disabilities can live, work, worship, and socialize throughout their lifelong journey;
  • To foster individual independence and self-determination;
  • To offer its residents meaningful employment with dignity and purpose;
  • To attract and support a devoted group of caring staff, volunteers and friends whose hearts and minds are fully committed to our family mission; 
  • To nourish the spiritual and emotional growth of its residents, staff and friends;
  • To affirm the eternal value of all individuals with disabilities.

The Project

  •   Originally organized by parents of children with developmental disabilities 
  • Will provide long term residential care to assure continuity of quality of life 
  • Includes residential and recreational facilities, much like a retirement community
  • Modeled on other successful residential communities for disabled individuals in the U.S. 

Today’s Challenges

  • Cost of present care
  • Often provided in Medicaid Supports waivers
  • Must be supplemented by parents or other caregivers
  • Challenges for Parents
  • Providing safe, supportive and stimulating care environments for their children 
  • Finding qualified caregivers 
  • Offering meaningful employment with dignity and purpose

How Will St. Andrew’s Work?

  • Campus community: A Village
  • Each residence will be home to 8 villagers, each with his/her own bedroom and bathroom
  • Each residence includes a family room, laundry and kitchen
  • Villagers at each home share meals
  • Catholic Nuns will be in Residence

Life at St. Andrew’s Village

  • Live on campus and work on campus 
  • Live on campus and work off campus  
  • Live off campus and work on campus

  Villagers will interact with the local community

  • The community will be involved in campus activities

Proposed Partnerships

  • Partnerships with: 
  • University of Holy Cross
  • Loyola University of New Orleans
  • Xavier University
  • Delgado Community College
  • Student internships to provide business enterprise and therapeutic services
  • Business development services

St. Andrew’s Village

  • Parents of disabled children share two concerns: 
  • How will their children function in society during adulthood? 
  • What will happen to the child when the parents are gone?
